Catholic saints are interesting

Take this one for instance. The image of this skewered saint stands before the old Spanish church in Liliw, Laguna along with other statues which supposedly take the form of other Catholic saints and martyrs. These cemented replicas bear the name of the saint below them. But I was stupid enough to exclude the name plates when I took the photo.

Why this particular scene in the entirety of his life was chosen, I have no idea. Maybe it's supposed to show martyrdom of some sort. But isn't it a little too morose? The sky seems to agree.

that's beautifully said. =] btw, his name's saint sebastian. my gas, i can still remember some of their names. i am so fascinated by old catholic art, isama mo na yung architecture. had catholicism been an art movement instead, i'd be one of its most devout followers. -trish

OMG I'm drawn to homosexuals. I googled Saint Sebastian and here's what i got:

The earliest gay icon was St. Sebastian.[2] The combination of his strong, shirtless physique, the symbolism of the arrows penetrating his body, and the look on his face of rapturous pain have intrigued artists both gay and straight for centuries; and began the first explicitly gay cult in the 19th century.[2] Richard A. Kaye wrote, "contemporary gay men have seen in Sebastian at once a stunning advertisement for homosexual desire (indeed, a homoerotic ideal), and a prototypical portrait of tortured closet case."
